It's Not News! It's a "Story"
If you need another reason to take a mental health break from the endless, alarming news streaming 24 hours a day, consider that what you're seeing is not information about what's happening in the world but a story about it.
A short, often dramatic, often biased and limited version of reality.
"Tonight's top story..."
"Our next story..."
"Here's Amanda with a story about..."

So I've been recommending that for your sanity, for your mental health, you turn off television news.
If you're watching all the time, as I was, it's not helpful, you're putting in all of this stuff that you can do nothing about because it's going on all over the world, and it's horrible and it leaves you feeling helpless, disheartened, and cynical, about the state of the world.
Here's the problem, one problem of many problems, it's that news requires a story.
So if you watch the news they'll often say our top story, our next story, story, they're telling you story. Not information. Not facts. Not knowledge. Stories.
A story has a beginning, it has a middle, it has an end, and a lot of stuff that happens in the real world, like the price of food going up has a lot of complicated stuff, so instead you're just going to get a story of one family struggling, and that's not informative it's just alarming.
