The Active Volcano in California; Mono Lake
In 1750, California's Mono Lake volcano erupted, after pushing up a patch of ground by more than 400 feet. This created a more than 200 acre lava flow, covering much of the northern half of Paoha Island. Yet, this rhyolite lava flow only represented 1 of the 30 vents which comprise the broader Mono Lake volcanic field, which as suggested by the name encompasses much of the lake itself and its current shoreline.
