Stress and Lupus (the science and tips)

Stress does abnormally affect the immune system. People who are genetically predisposed to having lupus are more likely to develop it after undergoing major stressors in their life (post-traumatic stress disorder, natural disasters, physical abuse, sexual abuse, child abuse, etc.) They will also often have flares of lupus during periods of stress.

Scientific research shows how stress affects the immune system. I go over some of that in this talk that I gave for the Lupus Foundation of American in December 2020.

This was done during the COVID-19 pandemic, just before the holidays. So, I also give some helpful advice on how to decrease stress during these difficult times.

COMMENT below: How do you deal with stress? What advice do you have for others?

I would like to thank the Lupus Foundation of America for recording this video and holding this educational event for people who suffer from lupus. Please consider supporting and joining the Lupus Foundation of America at www.lupus.org.
