This is the body cam footage of both the officers that took down the Nashville Christian school active shooter.
Responding to an active shooter, requires three things: Speed, Surprise, Violence of Action. As we learned in Uvalde, every moment you wait could cost a life. If you look closely in the video, you see these officers have to bypass a wounded child on the ground… Pause here for a second, and think about what these men had to face and what they had to bypass in order to stop the threat.
We have all heard of this maxim of Speed, Surprise, and Violence Of Action but, what does it mean in today’s Law Enforcement? Simply put, it means to achieve total dominance and to neutralize the threat.
In this case of an Active Shooter, Law Enforcement is already at a disadvantage. The threat is on their “home turf” so to speak. They have had time to barricade and fortify their position. As a result responding officers need to rely on speed to close with the suspect. But speed is a misnomer. You don’t want to move so fast as to miss the suspect, or worse become a victim yourself. But you must move deliberately, with purpose, one needs to move only as quickly and one can shoot accurately, and make good decisions. Speed is the momentum an officer needs to achieve violence of action. And speed, combined with violence of action results in the surprise responding officers need to neutralize the threat. That evil dirt bag was sitting on the second floor after finding and shooting every kid they could find and shooting at police officers as they were arriving on scene. We need men that are skilled at Violence to respond to current death threats. Thank God there are still real men left.
