Memorial Day

This Memorial Day I felt it would be good to share some insights from my perspective for those who may not have served. If you find yourself surprised by the response from someone currently serving, or a veteran, please do not take offense. Memorial Day is rough. Maybe it’s survivor guilt, maybe it’s simply that we miss our friends. The fact is that when you say “Thank you for your service” we are thinking “No, thank THEM for their sacrifice.” If you were to ask that same group they would tell you this weekend simply isn’t about us, it’s about those that gave their life for us to have a long weekend worth celebrating. So again, continue to thank people for their service, or wish them a happy Memorial Day weekend. Enjoy time with friends and loved ones celebrating it in your own way. That’s the point. You do you. Welcome to America. Just remember this is a special time for us to express gratitude specifically to those who gave that last full measure. And if someone retorts to your “thank you for your service,” don’t be discouraged- remember it’s not you, it’s that this weekend is difficult, and is about honoring those that “we” owe so much to. To all those who have given their life for this great nation, and their families, thank you for your sacrifice.
