Victoria High Country FREE CAMPING | Pretty Valley Campground, Fainter Falls & Historic Alpine Huts

Our weekend in the Victorian High Country began in Bright which was so beautiful to see in the Autumn. We stopped by the Rotary Market before heading on to Mount Beauty. We did a short walk to Mermaid Beach and Mermaid Rock Pools.

We then started driving up to Falls Creek. We stopped at Bogong Village on the way up and enjoyed some lunch by Lake Guy.

On our way to Pretty Valley, we took a detour and drove to the summit of Mount McKay, Victoria’s 10th tallest mountain.

We were unsure if we would camp at Pretty Valley Campground or continue on to another spot, but we knew as soon as we saw it that we wanted to stay the night there. We managed to get a gorgeous site looking out over the Bogong High Plains.

After setting up the swag we went to check out Pretty Valley Hut as well as the toilet and horse yards. There was also picnic tables and plenty of fire pits. We lit the fire at our campsite and played card games and had dinner.

It was pretty cold, getting down to around 4 degrees celcius overnight, however we were very toasty all night in the swag.

The next day we went down to Pretty Valley Pondage for a look before continuing on to find some other campgrounds and alpine huts. We stopped at Raspberry Hill Campground, Langford West Campground, Buckety Plains Campground, Faithfulls Hut and McNamara Hut.

We then made our way back down to Mount Beauty and made one last stop at the Clover Arboretum.
