Adine's Daughter Joins Baby Elephant Khanyisa in the Bush for Milk Bottles & Love

A new walk with the herd and old friends!

Moving through the reserve, Adine meets up with gentle giant females, Limpopo, Bubi and Tokwe, the Matriarch, all keeping close to albino baby elephant Khanyisa who is currently around one year and nine months old. Her age is an estimate as she was found alone in the wilderness with the snare around her neck at a size that indicated that she was about 4 months old only. An incredibly young and fragile age.

Khanyisa enjoys a few leafy nibbles but when she hears the Carers arriving by car to deliver a fresh batch of milk bottles, just made at the orphanage, she goes speed-walking in their direction. She gulps down the milk that carer, Willinton feeds her and Kumbura, precious allmother always, stays close. Kumbura often spends just about all day close to or right beside Khanyisa, with Lundi, Bubi and Tokwe also beside her frequently from sunrise to set.

Adine's daughter, Lente - a doctor in training - spent a lot of time helping at the orphanage during Lockdown in 2020 and bonded with Khanyisa. Here she returns to the bush to meet and greet her favourite little pink elephant and help Adine with filming these scenes to bring you Sunshine's adventures.

Khanyisa happily enjoys helpings of bark and leaves from mother and daughter. She will keep receiving milk bottles until about 4-5 years of age - it is by far the greatest expense in caring for baby elephant orphans but a vital essential to ensure she receives all the sustenance she would have received from her mother.
