Be'er Sheva (Beersheba)

Video tour with David Hyman, Israeli professional tour guide. Join me on this video tour of the city of Beersheba, the capital of the Negev region in Israel. Out tour will begin at the ancient Tel of Beer Sheva. The Tel is a Unesco world heritage site for being one of the best preserved Biblical archeological mounds ( Tels) in the world. Excavations have revealed a planned town dating back to biblical times- 8th century BCE. On the Tel we will see "Abrahams well" , the city gates, the streets , the storehouses and the most impressive water collecting reservoirs. Next on our tour we drive to modern Be'er Sheva and vsit the downtown area . we will examine three impressive buildings from the Ottoman period, around the year 1900. The adminstration Saraya building , the Governors residence and the historic Mosque. The two latter buildings have been restored and are used as the Museum of the Negev. We end our tour learning about the 1917 British attack on Be'er Sheva during World War One. Under General Edmund Allenby and with the ANZAC forces ( Australian & New Zealand Army Corps) the allied forces defeated the Ottoman troops while striking the town with the last Cavalry charge in history.
