New Wave : Kokun

In a visually creative industry like fashion, you’ll find a few talented individuals who dare to push the boundaries of art. Our new series, The Estd New Wave is about shining the spotlight on these emerging designers with Instagram-exclusive video content to understand them and their artistry better.

In our first edition, we take a look at Mridu Mehra’s Uttarakhand-based label Kokūn (@kokun.india). Mehra’s love and appreciation for nature is reflected in her label. You’ll find handloom fabrics like organic cotton and hemp being printed and dyed by hand by using natural dyes made from roots, seeds, flowers, leaves and even berries. Since Mehra believes in small-batch production, each piece is meticulously created by hand, which in turn results in something unique, unlike the mass-produced collections by fast fashion brands. The designer gives a glimpse into her ideology and her studio.
