Scottish Power Pipe Band's Grade 1 performance at the 2023 European Championships in Aberdeen

On a warm, breezy and mostly sunny 24 June 2023 first band on in the Grade 1 competition at the European Championships was Scottish Power Pipe Band. The band was led by Pipe Major Christopher Armstrong and Leading Drummer Jake Jørgensen.

Grade One was an MSR competition with bands playing a march followed by a strathspey and then a reel. New for this competition was a requirement that each piece should be no longer than four parts. The intention was to encourage bands to explore more novel repertoire, and this did seem to be the result and welcomed by a warm and enthusiastic audience.

Strathspey: The Islay Ball traditional
Reel: Cecily Ross Roderick Campbell
