YOUR WILLPOWER IS NOT LIMITED! Decision Fatigue & Following Through with Plans
Have you ever heard the theory that you can run out of decisions by making too many in a given time? Well, think again!
The theory of 'Decision Fatigue' relies on the idea that our willpower comes from a finite source and once we use it up, we have no self-control left to make the choices which are best for our long-term selves. Even though making decisions is a pretty demanding task for your brain, the idea that this process eats away at a limited amount of willpower doesn't quite add up in terms of our odds of survival and the ability for our self-control to be manipulated by circumstances.
So then why is it we find it hard to follow through with the 'best' decisions for our future selves at the end of a long day? This video explores some of the research behind willpower and decision fatigue, explains how cognitive fatigue could be the culprit for preventing us following through and a few ways to combat this!
