Human Rights Watch Warns Civilians in Lebanon Still at Risk Despite Ceasefire

Human Rights Watch has warned that civilians in Lebanon continue to face serious risks despite the announcement of a ceasefire, citing ongoing violations and deteriorating humanitarian conditions, particularly in the south.

In a statement published on its official platforms, the organization said the destruction of bridges and key infrastructure linking areas south the Litani River to the rest of the country has severely disrupted movement and limited civilians’ access to essential services. This, it noted, has further worsened already fragile humanitarian conditions in affected areas.

Human Rights Watch stressed that continued damage to civilian infrastructure keeps populations at risk even during periods of reduced hostilities. It called on governments and international actors to take urgent steps to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and to guarantee safe movement for civilians in conflict-affected areas.

The group also urged stronger international efforts to protect civilians and provide basic needs, highlighting growing displacement and the strain on essential services. It warned that continued military escalation is exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and directly impacting civilian lives.

The warning comes as large parts of Lebanon face mounting humanitarian challenges following recent military operations, which have resulted in casualties, damage to public and private property, and increased internal displacement.
