HMNZS Achilles - From Fighting Graf Spee, to Being Bombed by Japan

HMS- later HMNZS -Achilles is an interesting case. A ship that had a very notable battle to her name...and then faded into the background. Early in her wartime career, this ship would be prominent in fighting Graf Spee at River Plate.

Then she shifted to convoy escort, until a particularly nasty bomb hit took her out of action for a year and a half.

Yet, despite this, she gave good and reliable service. It wasn't particularly famous, outside of Graf Spee, but it was good and lengthy. In fact, as INS Delhi, this ship would last all the way into the 1970s. Which is a record few British cruisers could hope to match.

Suffice it to say, New Zealand has good reason to be fond of this ship and what she did.

...god I hope this video actually performs like they used to.
