Alaska and Iowa Class...Aircraft Carriers? - The How and Why

One of the more interesting conversion ideas out there, was taking either the Alaska-class cruiser or Iowa-class battleship...and turning them into Aircraft Carriers. Something that came about during the 'carrier panic' of early 1942, when it wasn't apparent the Essex Swarm would come about so quickly.

This resulted in the successful, if flawed, Independence-class light carriers. But it also saw some early sketches made for larger conversions. Of these, the Alaska-class one has more information.

But both are interesting for how *potentially* capable they are. Even if it's quite apparent why this never happened.
