Scottish Munro Extravaganza Part 4 - The Final 12

The Scottish Highlands are absolutely wonderful, and they remain one of my favourite parts of the world. The highest mountains in Scotland are listed as the Munros, and are classified by virtue of being over 3,000ft. Often these are climbed from near sea level, singly or in groups, so they still make for tough days out. Climbing all 282 of them for most is a lifetimes work.

I perhaps made the mistake of climbing around half the Munros before I emigrated to New Zealand in 2005. That leaves a challenging task to complete them from NZ. So, following a few shorter trips and with time moving on, I decided to take an extended trip in 2023 with a view to knocking off a significant chunk of the remaining climbs. I was on 138, and I managed 38 on this trip to leave a round 100 to go.

This video covers the final 12 of those 38 Munros, climbed over 9 days in September 2023. It includes possibly the finest Munro of them all; the awesome An Teallach.

This section included: -
- Meall Buidhe
- Stuc an Lochain
- A'Chaileach, Carn Sgulain and Carn Dearg
- Mullach Clach a'Bhlair
- Sgurr Fiona and Bidein a'Ghlas Thuill (An Teallach)
- Maol Chean-dearg
- Cairn Gorm
- Bynack More
- Beinn Dearg

It included hills in Glen Lyon, Monadhliath, eastern Cairngorms, Strathnasheallag, Glen Carron, the northern Cairngorms and Atholl.

Overall Scottish Munro Extravaganza Trip Stats:-
- 25 days climbing in the hills
- 38 Munro's climbed
- over 26km of ascent
- new knees required
- Leaves 100 Munro's to go.....
