🔷La Barceloneta🔷

Barceloneta is a neighborhood sailor origin of the district of Ciutat Vella of Barcelona built during the century xviii and initially designed by the engineer Prosper de Verboom , in 1719, in order to accommodate the residents of the neighborhood of La Ribera who had lost their houses, ordered to be demolished by Felipe V to build the Citadel . But the works did not start until 1753, under a new project and direction of the military engineer Juan Martín Cermeño at the request of Jaime de Guzmán. The Barceloneta neighborhood owes its existence to the land that was reclaimed from the sea by absorbing the island of Maians .
The neighborhood has a triangular shape and borders the neighborhood's beaches and the sea, with the Pier of Spain in the Old Port and with the neighborhood of La Ribera , the station of France and the new Olympic Port of the city. The urban structure of the neighborhood is a good example of the type of urbanism of the Enlightenment period, with rectilinear streets and blocks of regular houses. The typology in origin was that of single-family homes with a floor and a floor with access to two streets so that they had optimal ventilation. Over the years and speculation, this structure has disappeared and we find buildings with heights much higher than those originally established, in addition to the partitioning of the original homes into halves and floor rooms.
In the center of the neighborhood is the church of San Miguel del Puerto in the Plaza de la Barceloneta, by the son of Martín Cermeño, Pedro . In 1950 the Evangelical Baptist Church of Barceloneta was inaugurated. Located in calle Ginebra nº 35, it is one of the most important evangelical churches in Catalonia.
In this neighborhood is also the Campus del Mar of the Pompeu Fabra University.
