🔷El món neix en cada besada🔷

The world is born in each kiss (in Catalan, El món neix en cada besada) is a photomosaic located in the Plaza de Isidre Nonell, in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona. It was made by the photographer Joan Fontcuberta and the ceramist Antoni Cumella in 2014.

The origin of this photocomposition is in the tricentennial of the Catalan defeat in the War of the Spanish Succession (September 11, 1714), which gave rise to the celebration of Catalonia Day. The initiative came from the photographer Joan Fontcuberta in collaboration with El Periódico de Catalunya, and consisted of the elaboration of a mural composed of photographs sent by the readers of El Periódico, which together would form an image. The required subject for the photographs was "living free." With them, 4000 ceramic tiles were formed, distributed in 50 rows of eighty tiles each, which together form the image of kissing lips. It was installed on a wall near the private garden of a house in the Plaza de Isidre Nonell and, although in principle it should be an ephemeral installation, the Barcelona City Council decided to leave it permanently. The mural was inaugurated on July 3, 2014 by the Mayor of Barcelona, ​​Xavier Trias.

Next to the mosaic there is a plaque with the inscription:

This photomosaic mural has been made with the contribution of thousands of citizens who have contributed personal images interpreting the motto "moments of freedom". The project is part of the commemoration of the Tricentennial of the events of 1714 in Barcelona. The noise of a kiss is not as deafening as that of a cannon, but its echo is more lasting.
