Hi guys and welcome to another video of Historicly. In today's video, we have prepared a little tribute of Heath Ledger. We're going to be looking into the life-story of the most memorable Joker!

Named after the brooding hero of Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff Andrew Ledger was born in Perth, Australia, on April 4, 1979, to Kim, a mining engineer and racing enthusiast, and French teacher Emma. His parents divorced when Heath was ten.

At school, Heath was being pushed and dragged forward by his sister, Catherine. Where he started showing his talents and stage craft with Globe Shakespeare company in Perth.

Heath dropped out of school at 16, with a goal to become famous and rich, that's why he set off on the 2,600 mile journey to Sydney,

Heath had a minor appearance in Ship to Shore from '93 to '94.
This minor appearance led to him starring as the first gay character in Australia's sweat as Snowy Bowls, which he conisdered as really bad, Heath was known as a huge self-criticist.

Fortnulatey his opinion of himself went over the head's of casting directors who were not of the same opinion and more roles quickly followed. He appeared in an Aussie soaop Home and Away,
Following his success, the actor wanted to try his luck in America, in 1997, which definitely worked out as Ledger got himself a role in the cult TV drama Rar.

That role lead to the groundbreaking 1999 teen flick 10 Things I hate About You which resulted in a lot of offers to appear in similar roles. The role as the grunge rebellious teen, had Ledger showered in offers for similar movies, but he was having none of it. To quote him, he was "sticking to his guns".

For a year he declined generous offers while eating instant noodles but it got him a role opposite fellow Aussie actor, Mel Gibson in The Patriot in 2000.
A year later came A Knight's Tale which personally I Think is underrated. It paved a way in Ledgers' chaotic and determined way of acting.

Then in 2005, Ledger starred in the tripple-Oscar-winning movie Brokeback Mountain, which changed Heath's life completely. His role in the gay cowbloy flick had Ledger share the screen with another fellow, young talent, JAke Gyllenhaal.
On an interview Ledger said that he used to smoke 5 joints a day for about 20 years.
On set he met Michelle Williams, whom he dated for three years and hads a daughter, Matilda. Born on October 28, 2005.
Heath was on his way to becoming an icon in the film industry, truly immerse himself in cinema as one of the greatest actors that would be studied in film schools. In late 2007, he and Michelle split.

When it was announced that he would play the Joker, Heath had many bad reviews and the people were colding him for that, considering him as just a sex symbol and an inexperienced actor for the role. It only drove him to let out the most revering performance there is. Heath was known to get into the character's head which had an impact on his sleeping disorder, causing him to be more insomniac, driving him to take more and more sleeping prescriped sleeping pills.

To truly become the Joker, Heath had to find his laugh, he locked himself in a hotel nad read nothing but com books, kept a journal with him throughout this experience and the result was amazing.
Tragically on January 23, 2008, fans across the globe were shocked by the news of his death, drawing tributes from fellow actors. Heath was intoxicated from various drugs in his system

In 2009, Heath's acclaimed portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight earned him a posthumous Golden Globe supporting actor award, and an Oscar in the same category.

However, Heath will forever remain universal for his Joker role, forever remembered with the legacy he left behind.
