Transform Your Kick Serve with 3 Simple Drills - Tennis Kick Serve Technique
The kick serve is the most effective way to hit second serves in tennis. Download our FREE serve guide here - https://www.top-tennis-training.com/serve-guide/
Hitting an effective kick serve allows you to be aggressive with your second serve, but in a safe and highly consistent way. When you're just starting to learn to hit the kick serve in tennis, try to master the 7-1 o'clock swing path. This will increase the height of the ball as it travels over the net, effectively taking the net out of play. The kick serve also allows you to maintain fast racket head speed, but instead of hurting the opponent with power, you'll put them on the back foot with the spin rate (RPM or revolutions per minute) and the height of the bounce. Hitting a return around shoulder or head height is much harder than hitting a return at waist height. This high, aggressive bounce, makes attacking a kick serve in tennis much harder than a normal bouncing second serve.

In this kick serve lesson, Coach Simon Konov of Top Tennis Training will share with you his three favourite kick serve drills to help you transform your own kick serve.

Drill One - Start off on one knee, (right knee for right-handed players) with your racket in the trophy position. Focus on brushing up and across the ball, aiming to go from 7-1 or 8-2 o'clock. Go for 15-20 serves from this position. By being so low, it forces you to hit up and brush the ball in order to clear the net.

Drill Two - Stand much wider than you normally would, close to the doubles alley. Serve into the ad service box and aim to stay side on with your body until the ball bounces on the other side. By staying side on, this allows the racket head to travel from the left side of our body to the right, in line with the baseline. This is the ideal swing path for creating a massive kick serve. Go for 15-20 serves using this method.

Drill Three - Hit your normal kick serves but aim to get the ball bouncing inside the service box but kicking out of the doubles alley before it passes the baseline. If you can hit second serves that travel that wide after the bounce, you'll put your opponents under huge pressure.
