The Planets - NEPTUNE, the Mystic - Gustav Holst (Organ Solo)
Roberto Bertero at the Serassi/Vegezzi-Bossi/Tamburini/Zanin organ of Fossano’s St. Mary and St. Juvenal Co-Cathedral (Italy)
In this video I am playing my arrangement for solo organ of Neptune, composed by Gustav Holst, excerpt from the suite “The Planets” Op. 32.
I have always looked at Space with wonder. Its being distant, silent, elusive - an echo of infinity that attracts, fascinates and moves...
Therefore, when I began to study music, I was inevitably struck by Gustav Holst's suite “The Planets”.
Although Mars and Jupiter are the most famous, it was Neptune that spoke to me most deeply: a piece made of sound veils, evanescent harmonies, suspended like a whisper in the void.
I therefore decided to interpret it on the organ, to glimpse the infinite in the reverberating acoustics of the great cathedrals.
Neptune is mysticism in music and the organ, more than any other instrument, knows how to be a medium of Mystery.
The sound has been captured with Zoom H5 audio recorder (96kHz / 24bit), while footage was filmed with Canon EOS 5D Mark IV.
