Christine Holgate using ‘ignorance as an excuse’ over lavish bonus gifts

Sky News contributor Lauren Southern says Australian Post Chief Executive Christine Holgate “professed ignorance as to who owns the organisation” as an excuse for the excessive Cartier watch bonuses given to her executive team.

It comes as Ms Holgate was stood aside after she told Senate Estimates a team of AusPost staff members received $3,000 Cartier watches as their yearly bonus.

The company revealed the price of the four luxury watches bought for senior employees cost $19,500 - much higher than the original reported price.

Ms Holgate has her to make a number of “controversial decisions” in her role, including reducing letter deliveries to every second day in Metropolitan areas, according to Sky News host Rowan Dean.

Sky News host James Morrow said presumably the cuts were made “because the organisation was financially strapped”.

He said this is clearly not the case given Ms Holgate admitted that Australia Post “lavished expensive gifts” as bonuses.
