Johann Strauss II "Pleasure Train" Polka - James Loughran conducts
In a "Viennese Night" during the 1974 Proms season in London's Royal Albert Hall, James Loughran conducted the Hallé Orchestra in a programme of works by Johann Strauss II, including this jolly polka entitled "Vergnügungszug" - the 'Pleasure Train' Polka - composed in 1864. Loughran succeeded Sir John Barbirolli as the Hallé's Principal Conductor in 1971. He held that post until 1983 and was the orchestra's conductor laureate from 1983 to 1991. This upload marks his 91st birthday on 30 June 2022. (From 'ICA Classics' DVD ICAD 5026).
