New M8 at Bellshill - First Day Drive

Part of the wider M8/M73/M74 completion project, a brand new stretch of M8 motorway is being constructed between Baillieston and Newhouse.

On Tuesday 01/11/2016, the first section of the new M8 opened to W/B traffic between EuroCentral and Bellshill/Shawhead. The new section is effectively one long slip road, allowing traffic heading from the east to reach the A725 S/B towards Bellshill, East Kilbride and the M74 at Raith Interchange.

This short stretch crosses the west coast mainline railway at the old Orchard Farm and the North Calder Water via a huge flyover (barely noticable on the drive itself).

Note that the video starts at the new Chapelhall onslip W/B, passes the Eurocentral off-slip and then the new M8 starts just as we exit the A8 to the left at the big bridge.
