Hurricane Zeta has strengthened to Category 2 status and threatens the Gulf Coast of the United States, where it has just made landfall in Louisiana.

Hurricane Zeta will bring a range of life-threatening impacts including A storm surge of 5-8 feet along Southeastern Louisiana and 6-9 feet in coastal Mississippi, additional rainfall of 4-6 inches near the landfall area with 2-4 inches possible up to the Mid-Atlantic, and hurricane-force winds at or near major hurricane intensity near the storm's landfall location, with the unusual risk of damaging winds far inland from Louisiana to North Carolina due to the forward speed that Zeta has.
