Swimbait SCIENCE: how to see fish FOOTPRINTS
What makes a giant swimbait so irresistible to big bass? We dig into our science toolbox and introduce Digital Particle Image Velocimetry, a way to visualize the flow behind real trout to see their hydrodynamic "FOOTPRINTS." Using a LASER to light up particles and then capturing their swirling motions with high-speed video, I show that it is the SHAPE and FLEXIBILITY of swimbaits, not just the overall length, that creates strong eddies. Think about that next time you are choosing a monster bait for a MONSTER bass!
