What If...? – Touchstone / View Askew (Kevin Smith's Ghosts of Girlfriends Past)

The Christmas Carol-inspired rom-com Ghosts of Girlfriends Past was originally set up at Disney's Touchstone Pictures banner in 2004, with Ben Affleck starring in the lead role. Affleck asked his friend and frequent collaborator Kevin Smith if he wanted to direct. Enthusiastic over the opportunity to helm someone else's screenplay, Smith agreed, but was prevented from doing so by the Weinsteins, who repeatedly badgered him into staying loyal to Miramax Films — where he unsuccessfully attempted to get Fletch Won made — and were in the process of splitting up from Disney.
