Nupchu Pokhari and Ghumante Pokhari, Exploring Khambachen - Taplejung

After our return from Pangpema, we stayed in Khambachen at Nupu’s Kanchenjunga White House for 4 days hoping the weather clears up and we could go back to see Mt. Kanchejunga. During this free time, we discovered a lake nearby Khambachen. Since it was nameless, we named it “Ghumante Pokhari”. And once Nupu told us about Nupchu valley and Nupchu Pokhari, we set out the next day towards this lake that’s never seen in Photos and videos before.

The four hour journey to the lake was full of magnificent views but the trails were not clear. We were completely exhausted when we reached the lake but it all felt worth it once we saw the first one, clear blue water and Mt. Kumbhakarna in the background. After lunch, we had to search for the second one and once we found it, it was just breathtaking. It was much bigger and much more beautiful than the smaller one.

We spent several hours in the lake but got lost on our way back because of the intense fog which starts to build in the evening. Syangbo and Milan, boys from Khambachen rescue us.
