A near death experience my guide dog saved me from! I was completely in the dark

Wow, this near death experience occurred this afternoon on an adventure I was filming for a bigger video. My guiding angel, Arabella Faith, and I were on our way home from finishing shopping at the grocery store.

For those of you who do not know, I am 100% completely blind and have no light perception and my eyes are prosthetic. I navigate through this world through my other senses, develop skills, and through my amazing guiding angel Arabella’s incredible intelligence.

The scary moment, I didn’t even know occurred until after I got home and showed the footage to a friend. Seriously, this moment had me completely in the dark. I had no idea I came so close to being hit by this car.

Let me paint a picture for my blind viewers, I had to have someone paint it for me as well.

So as I am lining up at the curb with Arabella, listening to my traffic, waiting for the audible signal to alert me and it’s time to cross, along with listening to the sound of my parallel traffic about to surge, there were some cars on my left waiting to turn right. I obviously did not know this, but when the audible signal started, and the parallel traffic started surging, I gave Arabella the command forward and we took a step into the street. Immediately, Arabella stopped in her tracks and kind of moved me a little bit to the left. In the video, you’ll actually hear me say something like, what happened? But then I tell her to find curb find curb and we continue to cross the street.

Oh my goodness, there was a car that did not yield, it started turning in front of me before I stepped out. I came so close to running right into the side of the car. The car actually swerved a bit to help from hitting me and Arabella. So amazing, Arabella stopped me like a good girl, and then as soon as it passed she cleared me across the crosswalk to the other side safely.

I was wondering what caused her to hesitate in the street, it definitely startled me in the moment but I didn’t know what had happened. And because there was so much noise in the intersection with cars going by, I didn’t even notice or hear the car that turned in front of me. Things sound a whole lot different when you’re in the environment versus watching a video. But wow, this driver definitely was in the wrong. They saw me standing there on the corner yet did not yield for me and Arabella.

Anyways, it’s moments like this that truly opens my eyes to see how truly grateful I am to have Arabella as my guiding angel. I have so much faith and trust in her. It’s very scary as you can see/hear to navigate through this world without eye sight, but because of Arabella, and my faith in her, along with my confidence in myself and my faith in God, we are able to step out into the unknown. I’m not about to allow this moment, or my fears in my life to defeat me, but to empower me and continue developing my skills to be more confident with each adventure.

Please don’t tell me that I shouldn’t be independent because of situations like this, I will not live in fear, I live with a heart full of faith, and a spirit that is determined to live each and every day with joy and to the fullest!
