Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., preparing to remove Donald Trump’s name following a decisive legal blow to the administration. U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper firmly rejected a last-minute request from the center’s Trump-appointed board of trustees to pause a court-ordered deadline to strip all references to the president from the venue. The federal appeals court subsequently rebuffed an emergency stay request as well. The ruling determined that the board acted illegally in December when they voted to rebrand the national landmark as the Trump-Kennedy Center, clarifying that only Congress possesses the constitutional authority to rename a federal memorial. Democratic Representative Joyce Beatty of Ohio, who filed the lawsuit challenging the name change, celebrated the decision alongside local arts advocates and protesters gathered at the historic plaza.
