Keralam CM VD Satheesan Launches Flagship 'Priyadarshini' Scheme Offering Free Bus Travel For Women

In a major milestone for women's empowerment and public mobility, Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan officially rolled out the highly anticipated 'Priyadarshini' free travel scheme in Ernakulam. A primary component of the newly formed UDF government's 'Indira Guarantees,' this flagship welfare initiative provides completely free travel for all women and transgender individuals across ordinary buses operated by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). Marking the grand rollout, CM Satheesan personally took a ride on the inaugural bus service to experience the facility alongside daily commuters. The scheme covers thousands of ordinary services statewide—including city ordinary, town-to-town, and Gramavandi services—significantly easing daily travel expenses for working women and students. Under the rules, passengers will be issued 'zero' fare tickets on board without needing to show identity proofs, ensuring seamless access across the public transport network.
