Jaishankar revealed that the US had specifically requested India to purchase Russian oil to help stabilize global energy markets, only to later criticize those exact actions. He emphasized that global policies shouldn't be bent purely to suit Western convenience, stating, "Let's not pretend some great principle is involved here." Addressing regional perspectives, he argued that nations prioritize security based on proximity, meaning it is unrealistic to expect non-European countries to share Europe's exact calculus. Furthermore, Jaishankar outlined India’s strategic energy de-risking, highlighting a shift from Qatar to the US for gas while retaining Russia as a key oil supplier to ensure long-term predictability.
