Peter Sellars - Staging Classical Music | with Sarah Willis

Peter Sellars as a guest at Sarah's Music! The US theater and opera director Peter Sellars was Artist in Residence with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 2015/2016. His ambition while there was to semi-stage the opera Pelléas et Mélisande by Claude Debussy (1862 - 1918) at the Berliner Philharmonie. The performance would feature the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle.
Sarah Willis confesses that Peter Sellars is one of the most inspiring people she has ever met. Sarah talks to Sellars about his unusual stage projects. And there are also a few excerpts from the performance of Pelléas et Mélisande at the Philharmonie.

Sarah Willis is a British-American French horn player. In 2001, Willis joined the Berlin Philharmonic, becoming the first female member of its brass section. She was born in Maryland, USA and grew up in Tokyo, Boston, Moscow and London. At age 14 she started playing French horn and then attended the Royal College of Music Junior Department in London, UK. She studied full-time at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, UK. In 1991, Willis moved to Berlin, where she became Second Horn in the Berlin State Opera under Daniel Barenboim.
