This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.
This Core Concept video focuses on Gabriel Marcel's essay, Concrete Approaches to Investigating the Ontological Mystery, and examines his discussion of "availability" (disponibilité, in French) to other people. Another way of understanding this would be in relation to the value or virtue of charity or agape. Marcel also discusses the relation between a lack of availability and self-centeredness and alienation.
