Exploring Taiwan's Cat Village: Houtong (WARNING: HEAVY PETTING) | Taiwan Travel Vlog

**CORRECTION: At 9:44 I refer to a tomb as a temple, all of the sweat and excitement from the cat village must have fogged up my brain**

I went off on an impromptu day trip on an increasingly rare sunny day in northern Taiwan. Headed out slightly sleep deprived on a one-hour commuter train to the small former coal-mining village of Houtong. Once the coal industry in the region died down it left a village that now has more cats living in it than it does people... aka my kind of place! All I really knew about it before going there was seeing it in my Google Maps and having it saved, so I grabbed the GoPro and headed up into the mountains along the Keelung River to pet some sweet, sweet kitties. The cats are all given their shots, and looked after by the government so you will see in this video that they all have small collars on to track them. The village sort of seemed like an open-world cat petting zoo meets ghost town with all of the abandoned or somewhat abandoned old buildings in the area.

In this video I go over how to get out to Houtong, it's history, show the sights, trespass on people's property on accident multiple times, and pet a significant portion of the town's cat population (as well as a few dogs!). So basically, if you're looking for a travel vlog of twenty minutes of a grown man baby talking and petting cats then you've come to the right video!

OH! And in this video, I ask a question about the water tanks you see all over the country if anyone can give me a brief explanation on them I would be very stoked to learn!
