How does Zepbound (tirzepatide) compare to Wegovy (semaglutide)?

Tirzepatide (brand name: Zepbound) is the newest injectable medication for the treatment of adults with obesity, approved by the FDA on Nov 8, 2023.

Based on the results of the SURMOUNT trials, tirzepatide is the most effective obesity medication ever. This once-weekly injection produced an average weight loss of 20.9% of body weight at 72 weeks.

Prior to Zepbound, Wegovy (generic: semaglutide) was the most effective weight loss medicine, with an average weight loss of 15%.
