Bid to open Rafah border crossing for civilians to leave and Gaza aid falters

There is growing pressure on Egypt to reopen the Rafah border crossing to allow more aid into the Gaza Strip in exchange for civilians to leave.

Officials say 2,808 Gazans and 1,400 Israelis have been killed in the conflict.

Israel’s military has confirmed Hamas is holding 199 hostages in Gaza, an increase of 44.

Israel has also evacuated residents within two kilometres of the border with Lebanon following an attack by Hezbollah.

Hezbollah escalated tensions on the Lebanon border, killing one person and injuring three others.
