How To Remove & Replace Engine Splash Shield Guard Cover Honda Civic X 2016-2021 | Or Re-Install New

In this video, young mechanic Aiman will show you how to remove, replace and re-install the underbody Engine Splash Shield Guard Lower Cover for Honda Civic X 10th Gen 2016-2021. To remove the engine splash shield, you will need to remove a combination of 2 Phillips-head screws, 6 flathead quarter-turn fasteners, and plastic push clips. Removal Procedure:

Raise the Vehicle: Use a jack to lift the front of the car and secure it with jack stands.
Remove Front Phillips Screws: Locate and remove the four Phillips-head screws along the front leading edge of the shield.
Unlock Quarter-Turn Fasteners: Use a flathead screwdriver to rotate the metal quarter-turn fasteners (6 pieces) 90 degrees until they release.
Remove Plastic Push Clips: Locate any remaining plastic clips around the perimeter, specifically near the wheel wells. Use a trim tool to pop the center of the clip out before pulling the entire fastener away.
Slide and Detach: Once all fasteners are removed, slide the shield backward to disengage it from the mounting tabs and lower it from the vehicle.

People remove Honda Civic splash shields for easier oil changes, to fix a dragging/damaged shield, or because they believe it offers no benefit, but reasons to keep it include better aerodynamics (fuel economy/stability), protection from road debris, and preventing grass/litter from catching fire on the hot engine

Reasons for Removal:

Routine Maintenance: The splash shield must be removed to access components for routine service. This includes:
Changing the engine oil and oil filter.
Inspecting and replacing drive belts or other auxiliary components.
Performing transmission fluid checks or service.
Repairs and Diagnostics: For any work involving the underside of the engine, transmission, or related systems (e.g., steering pump, radiator, AC lines, exhaust), removing the shield provides the necessary access for mechanics to perform diagnostics and repairs.

Damage or Malfunction:
Replace it with a new unit.
