070123 VIDEO FROM FM 2090 CRASH SHOWS DOG BEING EJECTED AND RUNNING OFF

Just after 9 am Saturday morning, July 1st,crews with Gulf Coast Construction had just finished loading a road milling machine on FM 2090 next to the Caney Creek Fire Station. The 18-wheeler was well off the roadway. There was a Houston Police motorcycle officer and a Harris County Precinct 1 Deputy Constable motorcycle officer parked behind the truck. The driver of the truck was adjusting the airbags and standing directly in front of the rear tires. With the heat, the two officers went to fuel up before starting the long escort. A Caney Creek Fire Battalion Chief was traveling east on FM 2090 approaching the station. Firefighters were in the bays at the station cleaning trucks. A Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling east on FM 2090 directly in front of the Battalion Chief. For unknown reasons, the Tahoe driver veered off the road and crossed the white line slamming into the rear of the heavy hauler traveling directly across the path the motorcycle officers had been parked.  The driver of the heavy hauler was not injured, however, the driver of the Tahoe was removed by firefighters in critical condition with a severe leg fracture. He was taken to HCA Conroe. The road was closed for just over two hours as Montgomery County Deputies investigated the crash. Range 3 wrecker removed the Tahoe from the scene. The heavy hauler, which suffered damage to the rear will be partially repaired on the scene before a decision is made to move the equipment to another truck. Several days later as fire personnel were reviewing security video, saw what shocked them. Unknown at the time of the crash was a dog had been in the vehicle. In the video you can see the dog being ejected from the vehicle, it rolls several times and takes off running into the woods on the northside of FM 2090. It does not appear to be injured. Caney Creek Firefighters have since combed the woods and have been putting food and water out.
