Tartu - Exploring Estonia's University City | In The Baltics E15

Join me on a day trip from Tallinn to Estonia's second largest city Tartu. If I'm honest the two and a half hour bus journey nearly put me off but in the end I decided to go with it. I'm glad I did.

Tartu is a quaint university town 30 miles from the Russian border, it also happens to be one of the oldest cities in the country! I spent the morning walking along the river and then up to Town Hall Square to see the incredible architecture and colourful buildings of the triangular shaped plaza. After relaxing by the Kissing Students Statue I headed up the hill to a beautiful little park where I found the shell of an old church destroyed by fire centuries ago.

Before catching the bus back to the capital I stopped by Tartu's Botanical Gardens to enjoy the last moments of what had been a perfect spring day. An enjoyable and interesting place to visit - definitely recommended!
