My Experience Hiking BEN HOPE | Munro Bagging in SCOTLAND! | NC500 E7
My experience of hiking the mighty Ben Hope, Scotland’s most northerly Munro & my first attempt at Munro Bagging whilst driving the spectacular North Coast 500 route in northern Scotland.

After a few days driving the NC500 it was time to get my hiking boots on and head out into the Scottish mountains for a spot of hill walking and trekking. The weather was windy but mostly bright with a few scattered showers forecast throughout the day - something I had planned for well in advance. As I looked up towards the summit I could see that it was covered in clouds - I could only cross my fingers and hope that it would clear by the time I hiked to the top.
The walk up Ben Hope is a tough one - steep, slippery and muddy at first , then rocky and dry. It's about a 5 mile round trip with an ascent of 946 metres (3,104 feet) from the car park at the trailhead. It’s not easy but then I don’t expect any Munros to be. I actually thought on my way up that it’s a good Munro for beginners like me. I enjoy hillwalking and there’s plenty of challenges to choose from whilst driving the North Coast 500.
Ben Hope is Scotland's most northerly Munro, which is essentially a Scottish mountain with a summit above 3,000 feet in altitude. Munro bagging is the act of conquering a Munro and being able to say that you've stood at the top - that it's in the bag so to speak. When I set out my bag was empty! Completely empty!! So my hope was to get out the traps and bag my first Munro in style - the mighty Ben Hope.
