Banded mobilizations were most likely adopted from a manual therapy technique called mobilizations with movement, a concept developed by a physiotherapist named Brian Mulligan. This technique involves a practitioner utilizing a belt or strap, providing a force in a desired direction, while moving the joint through different ranges of motion. Common areas which people utilize joint mobilizations are the ankle, hip, shoulder, and elbow.
The goal of this video is to review what joint mobilizations are and some common banded techniques used for the ankle and the hip. Within these techniques, the video intertwines some research about their proposed mechanisms and how much of an impact they have on objective outcomes, such as joint range of motion.
