Beginner Resistance Band Chest Press - Chest Press With Resistance Bands

In this video we discuss how to do a resistance band chest press exercise. We cover the positioning and movements of the body in during this exercise.

Resistance band chest press.

For this exercise you are going to need a poll or a structure to wrap a band around.

For beginners, I would recommend using a thinner band that has less tension and increasing the tension in the band or using a thicker band over time as you get more comfortable with the movement, and your targeted muscles get stronger.

Start by wrapping the band around a poll or secure structure and stand in a split leg stance with your left foot out in front and toes of both feet pointed slightly to your right. Have a slight bend at the knees and a straight back.

Stand so that the poll is in back of you and slightly off to your right side. Hold the handles of the bands with your palms facing down, left arm extended as the band should wrap around the left side of your torso just beneath your armpit. Have your right arm bent at the elbow, with your hand positioned slightly below the level of your shoulder and your elbow behind you.

For the exercise, push your right hand forward, extending at the elbow, increasing the tension of the band, until your arm is fully extended. If your range of motion does not allow you to fully extend your arm, that’s ok, just push your arm forward to a point that is comfortable for you.

Once you have reached this point, return your right hand to the starting position. After you have finished a set on the right side of your body, switch around and do the left side using the same technique, making sure that as you do the left side, the poll is in back of you and slightly off to your left side with your toes pointed slightly left.

Your motion should be slow and controlled, exhaling as you push the band forward and inhaling as you return to the starting position.

The main muscles worked in this exercise are the pecs, or chest muscles, and this will also work your shoulders and triceps.
