Afterthoughts on Clementi Sonata in C Major, opus 2 n°1 (1781)
Personal ideas, suggestions, technical tips & tricks, context,... of my performance of this sonata. Here's a general index to scroll through the video if you'd like:
0:18: These sonatas are fascinating, both musically and placed in time
2:00 Technical level of Clementi in 1781
2:55 The opening, difference pianoforte - clavichord
3:40 Independance of the left/right hand + octaves!
4:28 this is really great music, don't judge it only on the beginning
5:15 The second theme
5:35 The tempo indicators are the sixteents notes. This is NOT an alla breve!
6:25 On which instruments are these repeated notes possible?
6:30 A clavichord has a faster repetition than compared even to a modern grand piano
8:20 Opening the way to Beethoven
8:40 Unseen difficulties at that time!
8:50 More difficulties
9:05 Octaves!
9:45 Clementi is a strong "Ender"
10:00 Middle section: again amazingly new in technique. Relaxation of the wrist
12:30 Late baroque style
13:35 Rondo
14:55 Long trill... in 1781
15:20 Minore part
15:40 The clavichord works great for this music
16:22 Clementi is an underestimated composer
