A baby can start recognizing their mother's voice as soon as they are born. Pediatrician Mariana Glusman says that research has shown that words read to babies when they are in the womb are words they prefer to hear after birth. A baby not only recognizes the words and patterns they heard in the womb, but also their mother's voice. By the time babies are 4-5 months old, they can distinguish between different voices.
