Air molecules move faster when it is hot and humid due to their increased thermal energy.
Sound relies on air molecules colliding into one another to create compressions (particles moving towards each other) and rarefactions (particles spreading out). Increasing the speed of air molecules makes the sound waves move faster. The speed of sound in the air is around 343 m/s.
