Planetary Rotation - Prograde vs Retrograde
Prograde Rotation: This is the most common type of rotation in our solar system. Planets with prograde rotation spin counterclockwise when viewed from above their north pole. Most planets, including Earth, have prograde rotation.
Retrograde Rotation: Planets with retrograde rotation spin clockwise when viewed from above their north pole. This is the opposite direction of prograde rotation and is relatively rare in our solar system. For example, Venus has a retrograde rotation.
The direction of a planet's rotation can have significant effects on its climate, geology, and overall characteristics.
