Frances Crowe - Phase 2, Celebrating Humanity And Love For All Nations

Frances Crowe was born in Waterford and studied Fine art in The National College of Art and Design in Dublin, where she discovered the weaving department and fell in love with Tapestry. She moved to Roscommon in 1980 and opened Grange Studio where she weaves her tapestries and teaches.

Frances explores the personal landscape of emotion and memory in her tapestries. Recording world events for posterity, exploring the movement of people across the globe and sharing the narrative of their journeys in her large-scale tapestries. Displacement, distrust, drowning and the disappeared are a constant theme. Weaving together the experiences of different nationalities, the narrative is the same and history repeats itself.
Displacement, separation, climate change, and global warming all come under the lens of her work.
