Fiona Hoskys-Abrahall - Dodgeball

In 2018, The World Health Organisation created a priority list of 10 viral diseases that have the potential to cause a global pandemic. The one they were most concerned about was Disease X – a virus that had yet to be identified which combines all the deadliest features.

After reading an article about Disease X, Fiona started creating a series of virus inspired tapestries examining the complacency shown by Governments worldwide and the work being carried out by scientists. This tapestry series was named after children’s games to reflect the endless political squabbling and game-playing which failed to realise the severity of the threat highlighted by scientists.

Pre-pandemic the scientists were researching Disease X while hampered by lack of funding and political interest.

Roll forward to the Covid19 pandemic and we are all left playing a deadly game of dodgeball trying to avoid catching this new disease being bombarded with science, rules, restrictions and lies.
