Too Talented to Tank – NFL Week 5 Kansas City Chiefs Game Tape Breakdown by Kurt Warner

“What is wrong with the Chiefs?” That's one of the big questions that has been going around for a couple of weeks now. I think the Chiefs are going to be fine at the end of the day. Too much talent. They have been there, they’ve done it. But to me, they’re just not as efficient as they’ve been in the past. What’s the reason for that? Hard to really say. I remember when we lost the Super Bowl in 2001. We came back the next year, we started 0-6. Why? Because I think we were trying to right the wrong from the year before. We blew the opportunity to win the Super Bowl. We were favored and all that stuff. So we were going to come back the next year and be perfect. We were going to show people that last year was a fluke. I don’t know that’s the reason the Chiefs are struggling. If they are trying to do too much. They’re trying to be too perfect. It’s starting to work against them. You’re just starting to see some little flaws that show up. Some little details that have worked for them in the past that aren’t working for them this time around. I am going to pick 8-9 plays just from this last game. When you’re throwing the ball 40 times, you get 8-9 pass plays where you’re off just a little bit. Or you’re thinking something different. That has a huge impact on each and every game. Especially when you’re playing against a good team like the Buffalo Bills. When that stuff happens, you lose by 18 points. That’s what happens in the NFL against good football teams. Let’s take a look at maybe what’s wrong with the Chiefs.
Nobody is perfect. No team goes and plays perfect football. But, this is what you’re starting to see from the Kansas City Chiefs. There is a lot of little things that are the difference between big plays or incompletions. First downs or punting the ball away. Touchdowns or field goals. You see it over and over again, almost as if they are pressing. Almost as if they’re trying to do too much sometimes. “Travis Kelce, run a corner, but if I see this guy fall off and try to sit in the whole so he can get a big play every single time.”
Just run the corner, let me read the high-low. Let me read the CB. He drops and I will throw the pivot underneath.
He stays on the pivot, I throw the corner and I know exactly where you’re going to be and we are going to be successful.
So a lot of those things are starting to creep in. To me, they’re too talented. They’re going to be just fine in the end if they start cleaning up those little things. Just go back to the basics. Go back to what you’re doing. Let Patrick Mahomes do what he does. See the field, make decisions, make the big throws when they are there to be made. When everything is falling apart, now let’s do the scramble drill because we are as good as anyone in the league in the drill. But, we have got to get back to the details if we want to get back on track and get back to that Super Bowl for a third straight year. Right now, it’s not look very good because those inefficiencies, turnovers, etc. are really what is costing the Chiefs. #Chiefs #PatrickMahomes #NFL
