Lightning Explosion: Adverse Weather Causes Huge Fireball Near Oxford

This huge fireball illuminated the sky in Oxfordshire.

It was the result of a massive explosion at the Severn Trent Green Power plant near Yarnton.

One of the ‘digester’ tanks was truck by lightning, igniting the flammable gas inside.

Police closed the A40 and urged people to stay indoors while the fire raged.

Those near the blast felt the ground shake, and the explosion was apparently heard from over 20 miles away.

People across Oxfordshire saw the sky turn orange.
